The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season presents a large cast of characters living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with songs about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain threads recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator commented recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean fans have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 moves, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people make a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
