World Series Final Game Captures 51M Audience Members Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total over 50 million spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this is the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest averaged 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement over the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series recorded 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total US average reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase over last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
